Tree "Fellas"

Wow !! Mr Underwood gave us a quick call this morning. Did we want to come up and see one of his big Poplar Trees on Watson Road being felled. This was much better than maths. Mr Muir put us in the bus and off we went while Mrs Muir called our parents to let them know what was happening. It was very sad for Mr. Underwood having to cut down his trees but he told us they had become unsafe after 70 magnificent years growing along side Watson Road. When we arrived we had a safety talk and stood well back in the paddock to watch the fall of a mighty tree. The workmen used large chainsaws and a wire rope attached to a large machine called a "grabber" to guide the tree's fall. They were very good at their job. The logs are going to be used for pulp and will be taken away on logging tucks. We brought back to school a large ring to check the tree's age and some other pieces of wood to make some poker designs. Have a look at some of the pictures we took.
