The Fire Station / Arthur Laws Die-cast Toys

On Thursday 16 September our whole school visited our local Matamata Fire Station as part of Room 3 & 9's Firewise Unit.

Those hoses are really powerful.

Nakeisha thinks the firemans protective unform helps keep the fire fighters safe when working in dangerous situations.

After morning tea to we all travelled to Mr Law's place to look at his wonderful collection of die-cast toys. He has over 300. Some of them are very valuable and are collectors items. Mr. Muir said that when he was a boy his favourite toy was a piece of wood with a nail in it. If you used your imagination it could be anything you wanted it to be. What are some of your favourite toys?

Zero Waste Education

Te Poi School children got busy recently planting new native trees in the school's "Dearlove Grove" native bush corner. The six new trees, a titoki, a tawa, two manuka, a lemonwood and a mahoe, were the school's reward for collecting and recycling paper under the Zero Waste Scheme. This programme has been operating for the last year and Zero Waste educators are coming into the school at the end of this month to teach the children more about recycling and composting.

It's good hands-on learning for our students as we pride outselves on envoronmental awareness and sustainability. From the time they first start at Te Poi School our students learn about respecting the environment,minimising wastage and enjoying the outdoors. They love taking part inthe school's outdoor education programmes and also help to grow and maintain the tranquil and diverse native area.

What a week we have had with our own school Fun Run, our Interschool Cross Country on Wednesday and coming up our Omahine Fun Run on Saturday 7 November. By Sunday everyone should be all run out!!!!!!!!!

The weather was great on Monday with the children helping set up the obstacles before the Fun Run Events. Everyone competed in their age races. Lots of fun on the slippery slide too. Here are some pictures of that day.

Te Poi School held their Agricultural Day on Monday 19 October after having to postpone the event from the previous Thursday, which rained, rained and rained. It was a beautiful warm sunny day for the Families and Friends who came along and supported us on this great day. Our owners certainly put in a lot of hard work over the weeks preparing us for the ring activities. It was certainly fun to win a certificate, ribbon, trophy or cup and to meet other animals. Us Calves, Lambs and Kid Goats also met some of our friends from St Joseph’s School who we had invited out to be part of our day. They told us that they had a good time too. It looked like the Humans watching enjoyed themselves as they had lots of yummy food to eat prepared by the PTA. A and a “Dad’s Bake a Cake” Competition, all helping to raise funds for the school.

We had great fun and learning in Room 9 when we designed, constructed and finally raced our CO2 cars in the big race off last term. The winning car was Mwhip in 1.14 seconds over a 20 metre sprint.
